Blog Every Day in June Day 4 – Line #BledJ

Today’s word prompt is ‘line.’

Will have to be another quick one today. Fitting blogging every day around life and a full time job is a challenge!

Today’s word had me stumped, there were a few different directions I was thinking of going with it but they’re fairly deep and meaningful and I’m exhausted so taking an easier route! Lines – I have a lot of them drawn all over my body. I have quite a lot of tattoos and I’m always intrigued as to what other people’s motivations for getting them are. If they mean something, if they don’t, why that picture, those words etc. I have a real mix; most of mine mean a lot to me. They’re words or images that have significant meaning to me or are symbolic in some way in terms of things that have happened in my life and I like that. As cheesy as it sounds it really is like having your personal journey documented on your skin and when I’m old and wrinkly I’ll look back with nostalgia and laugh. Not all though, I have a load of Pokemon on my left leg and they have no meaning, I just really like Pokemon!

Tattoos do serve one more purpose for me though, other than the obvious aesthetic. Looking back over the years I tend to have gone and got a new tattoo whenever I was struggling with my mental health. To the point that when I get one to this day, my mum will double check I’m doing okay. I can’t explain why really. Most people know of the general opinion that it’s addictive but for me the pain was a bit of a welcome distraction when I was struggling. Healthy coping strategy? Probably not, but was used many times nonetheless. Today’s image is one of my smallest tattoos but one of my favourites. Be interested to hear other’s thoughts…

Till tomorrow x

  1. I don’t have any tattoos but I totally understand how physical pain can be comforting when mental pain is overwhelming. I couldn’t see the picture you mentioned so not sure if it worked properly. In any case, enjoyed reading your post!

    1. Would you ever get any? I think a lot of people can I guess there’s still a stigma around that though. The picture only shows on my home page unfortunately not on the main blog post! Thanks Steven glad you enjoy and for your comments!

      1. Oh wow, took a look on the homepage, amazing! I wouldn’t rule out the possibility of getting one. I think I’d be worried about regretting it if I did though. I’m such a perfectionist, if something was slightly wrong with it that would probably torment me, haha. Will look forward to your next post! 🙂

  2. I like this. I don’t have any tattoos, but I choose jewelry, especially earrings, with similar motivations. They are meaningful to me. Ex. I’m Irish, got married March 15, and chose shamrock earrings. 🙂
